We the students of class XI embarked on an exciting, educational and adventurous trip to the beautiful hills of Kodaikanal from the 16th of August to the 20th of August. We started our journey by train to Dindugal. Then, we reached Kodai by bus. While travelling we spent quality time with our friends.
We visited the Indian Institute of Astro Physics. We were welcomed by Dr.Ebenezer. The resource person, Ms.Deepika threw more light on the huge ball of fire i.e the sun. We also entered into the world of telescope and learnt about the auras too. Then, we embarked to the Bryant Park. The park was bejeweled with various species of plants, shrubs, hybrids and grafts. Unique and exotic types of roses were grown in the park. We cycled around the Kodaikanal Lake. The sparkling blue water was a tranquil spot for nature lovers to enjoy in the lap of mother earth, away from the hustle and bustle of city life. At night we danced to our heart's content around the camp fire.
The next day was full of adventure. We went on a walk to the Palani hills conservatory council .We met Mr.Bala , secretary of Palani hill conservatory council .We got an awareness on the geography of kodai ,uses of plants, destruction of few plants, behavior of animals and their habitat . We had a wonderful trekking experience. The resource person Mr.Vijay guided us in our long trek to Vattakanal waterfalls. During our trekking we collected different types of specimen. We had a memorable experience in the waterfalls. We spotted a bison (Indian gaur) and we were amazed to see its size. The water flowed down from the hilltop making its way through the verdant greenery of the region. Then, we walked in the lovely path of coaker's walk that curves by the edge of gorgeous mountain. We saw a glimpse of paradise on earth.
The next day, early in the morning we went 'bird watching.' The chriping of the birds and the cool breeze blowing on our face mesmerized us. Slowly, the sun started to rise in between the hills, which was a mind- blowing view.
We proceeded to a small trek to the Alnus forest. The sight of pine trees in abundance and welcoming us to their world is nothing but nature's wonder. We then spent some relaxing moments in the Rose garden. At last we visited the Shembagananur museum. We gained knowledge about moths, mammals, birds and butterflies.
Kodaikonal is nature's unhindered beauty. The climate was an extremely praise worthy one. On the whole it was fun filled and we were mesmerized by the beauty of Kodaikanal.
Students of Standard 5 enjoyed their field trip to THE FARM situated on the OMR, Semmanenchery on the 2nd of August 2019 escorted by their teachers and few parents.
As a pre - learning activity the students viewed a video clipping on 'Organic Farming' at school.
Activities at THE FARM included manure sieving and mixing, weeding, sowing the seed, walking in the vegetable garden, plucking the edible leaves for the restaurant, and feeding of the birds and cattle at the farm.
Students were served watermelon juice and homemade baked biscuits. Students enjoyed all the hands on activities.
"What we choose to share defines what we are"
In our efforts to bring about oneness and equality among all students, we, at school organised a 'community lunch' for students of Std VI on the 26th of August, 2019. In this regard, a few food items short listed by our teachers were prepared and sent by the parents.
Students of class VI participated in the community lunch by bringing different food items suggested. Class teachers along with parent volunteers served the food to the children after a thanksgiving prayer. The children enjoyed sharing food with their friends.
The importance of respecting the work of others, sharing of food and not wasting the food was briefed by the class teachers.It was a fun filled moment for Parent volunteers, teachers and children.
The students of standard VI visited Dakshinachitra on 29th of August 2019 along with their teachers. The activity started with a brief note from the guide on Dakshinachitra and visit to different types of houses in South India which are real dismantled and assembled houses from Tamilnadu, Kerala, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh. Dakshinchitra arranged for Mayilattam, Bommalaatam, and a magic show. Children were exposed to the various art forms of the past and their nomenclatures. The eve of Onam, was celebrated by Pookolam, Janda melam and traditional dance performance which lifted their spirits and made them happy.
TCS IT Wiz 2019, the biggest inter-school IT Quiz in India was conducted by Tata Consultancy Services for students of class 8-12 on 21st August 2019. Approximately 700 students from different schools across Tamil Nadu participated in the competition. 12 students participated in this quiz from our school. This quiz helped us to become aware and emphasize the importance of IT skills.
Garland making activity with woolen thread was conducted by Art club on 10.08.2019.
Rolling method, tying method and flower cutting method was demonstrated by the Art teacher. Students used mono colour and multi colour woollen threads for the completion of the activity.
Children wound different colours of wool around a base and made flowers using tying and cutting method. They thus created different colourful garlands of various sizes.
Our tiny toddlers of LKG enjoyed experiencing the texture and smell of the fruit through the 'Sweet lime activity' which was conducted on 9th ofAugust. Children were visually taught how to make sweet lime juice in class and later they were given a cup of juice to taste which made them even more excited and happy.
Students of T.I from classes VI to VIII were taken to observe the sundial section wise with the teacher incharge inside the school campus on 20.08.2019 (Tuesday). Dinesh Krishna. G and Harish Raman. M of Class VIII A addressed the students and explained clearly its uses and showed the live time in Sundial with the help of Sunlight. Following this, a quiz was conducted. Students exuded a lot of enthusiasm and eagerness to answer the questions thrown to them. Students gained a lot of information and knowledge on its invention.
