Report on Healthy Living

"Everyone has their own definition of a healthy lifestyle, and mine has come to mean making health a priority and not an obsession. It is health that is wealth and not the pieces of gold and silver", says Daphne Oz.

In this fast growing era of social media, food has become fast food. This is one of the reasons why we ourselves as human beings - the highly evolved species couldn't generate enough immunity and maintain a healthy living. It's now time to rethink our food habits and its effects on our healthy living.

In this regard, a national webinar on 'Infection and food for healthy living' was organized by Guru Nanak College, Velachery on 20th of May. Dr.Bharathi Ravikrishnan, assistant professor and head of department of biotechnology, Guru Nanak college was invited as the speaker. Our school gave an opportunity to the students of classes X and XI to participate in the webinar.

The objective of the webinar was to create awareness on infections and how to combat infection with a healthy diet in order to improve our immune system. Along the session, she enlightened the audience on various categories of infections and the modes of transmission.

As Benjamin Franklin rightly said, "An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure."

The speaker also threw light on the precautionary measures on how to stay away from the infection. A few noteworthy topics touched upon by her included Robert Koch's postulates, the broad classification of food based on various categories, the need to consume 'Rainbow Diet' and the dual character of food. Later on, she explained about the antioxidants, protective and regulatory foods and so on. She further went upon illustrating on topics like women's health and the different terrains of Chennai as well as the crops that are regionally grown.

This session was aptly timed. It is not just enough to lend our ears but to act upon accordingly is all the more significant.

I would conclude by quoting the words of Jillian Michaels,

"It's not about perfect. It's about effort. And when you bring that effort every single day, that's where transformation happens. That's how change occurs."
