India Seashell Museum - Field Trip

The students of standard VII visited the India Seashell Museum on 13th of November 2019. Two teachers and two parents escorted the children. This field trip was designed in an effort to make the students understand the needs of museums and to gain knowledge about the things that are preserved in a museum.

The activity started with a brief note from the Manager of the Museum regarding the History of the museum, Shell collection and pearl culture. During his interaction with students, he posed a question on pearl culture for which P S Tharika of VII A responded appropriately and was presented a small gift. Videos on different types of sea species and pearl culture were screened.

Students moved to various galleries to view different types of shells displayed. Following this they visited the aquarium, where they saw different types of fishes.

They were then directed to the pearl museum where real and cultured pearls were displayed. This was followed by a visit to the Dinosaur Museum where they saw different types of 3D dinosaur models with sounds and movements.

Finally students visited the Art gallery where they saw 3D paintings of humans and animals.

Students learnt about 'pearl culture' and were provided an opportunity to identify the different types of shells available in the world. They also witnessed the world's largest and smallest shell. They also gained knowledge about the significance and uniqueness of Valamburi shell.

It was indeed a fulfilled and informative trip for the students.
