As a part of life skill training, we are conducting 'Leadership Summer Camp' for our students, from 21st to 30th April '14, at our school.

We celebrated 'Chrysalis Day 2014' - a day for our children to display various projects that they have been working on, for the past 15 days.

As an educational institution we strongly believe that a child needs to develop and nurture life skills. True to our belief, our young and articulate Scouts and Guides took up the Pre Rajyapuraskar Test on 23 Feb '14, at Velammal Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Mogappair.The test involved various areas such as love for nation, self-esteem, effective leadership, orderliness, creativity, responsibility and team work, to name a few. Our teachers Mr.K.Ravikumar (Scout Master) and Ms. Ramamaheswari (Guide Captain) were honoured with 'Best Leader' badges

'Teacher Felicitation - International School Award' was held at our school on 04 Jan '14 from 5pm. Our Correspondent Mrs. Meenakshi Murugappan presided over the function and our guests included Former Directors Schools-AMM Foundation - Mr.Rao and Mr. Venkatakrishnan, Advisor Schools - Mr.Lakshminarayanan and Head Master, Sir Ramasamy Mudaliar Higher Secondary School - Mr.Venkatachalam.
The combined effort of the teaching and non-teaching teams was recognized, for weaving internationalism into our curriculum to enhance the joy of learning.

In continuation to our Principal's visit to Canada in April 2013, we had members from the University of Alberta, Canada, who visited our school on 30 Oct '13, to experience and understand the educational system which we follow. Mr.Jinjia Xu (Regional Manager-Asia) addressed the students of Class XII on various educational opportunities spread widely in Canada. Few parents of the students of Class XII were also a part of the session that took place in the AV Hall at 10am on 30 Oct '13.

'Kids 2 Kids' - an initiative by our children in 2012, to reach out to the kids who are less privileged. The same year our children contributed within each one's capacity to bring a smile on a child's face. Various contributions included food grains, clothes, books, stationery to name a few. From then on there has been nothing to stop our children not only in helping the under privileged children but also in developing the 'share and care' attitude.

'Kids 2 Kids' has moved one step higher this year. Our school celebrated 'CARENIVAL' on 11th & 12th Oct '13 - two days of fun, challenges and feast for the eyes. We had games, exhibition & sale of articles made by our children. The revenue generated on both the days will add-on to the contributions that will reach children who are less privileged.

Our 32nd Annual Sports Meet was held on 31st Aug '13 from 4 to 6pm.

04 students of Class IX along with Ms. Ruby Varghese attended a function on 26 July '13, organized by Little Drops to commemorate Dr. Rabindranath. A souvenir was released in his memory and an awareness on health and hygiene was stressed upon

The Felicitation of toppers in SSLC and Higher Secondary Examination (2012-2013) was held at our school on 17 July '13

We celebrated 'Rendevouz 2013' on 05 July 2013, as a part of various projects related to ISA (International School Award). The day was graced by Mr. Chanchai Charanvatnakit - Consul General of Thailand, and dignitaries from the Consulate General of the Russian Federation, Chennai - Ms. Valentina Mayorava and Mr. Albert Geffarov. A short film on elephants titled 'Return to the Forest' was viewed by the students. The focus was on tradition and customs which prevailed as common factors in India and Thailand. There was also a presentation on Nuclear Reactors and Culture of Russia. To end the day on a colourful note, our children presented a mix of Russian, Scottish, Japanese, Chinese and Indian forms of dance. The all-time favorite fairytale 'Cinderella', presented in Bharathanatiyam, was the highlight of the event.

X Seed conducts a workshop at AV Hall on 22 June '13, to enhance the effectiveness of X Seed curriculum. A few techniques such as planning, implementing and helping a class to conduct an activity were dealt with

The Department of Tamil conducts the following competitions on 27 Feb '13: 'Kamba Ramayanam - Recital' for Class VII from 12:15 pm at the Auditorium; and 'Pecchu Potti' for Classes VIII & IX from 1:30pm at the Auditorium.

33 students of Nature Club were taken on a trip to Silent Valley from 19 to 22 Jan '13. The children enjoyed trekking in the wilderness. The trip not only enabled our children to appreciate nature, but also paved way to help them identify flora and fauna that grow in the wild.

30 students of Nature Club visited Vedanthangal on 27 Jan '13. Our children had a hands-on experience in identifying semi-aquatic birds which visit Vedanthangal. Various behavioral aspects of such birds, the patterns of wings were also learnt.

We, as an educational institution, apart from emphasizing on the holistic development of a child, strive every day to better the methods to make learning enjoyable. At this juncture, we are glad that we are going in for International School Award (ISA), which is an international accreditation given by British Council for creating a sense of internationalism in children, by providing a range of opportunities through curricular and extra-curricular activities. In this regard, we have taken up eight projects and our children from classes I to IX and XI will be a part of the team. The projects are as follows:

'Theatrical forms - a powerful means of communication'
'Healthy living'
'Beauty through Mathematics'
'Nuclear Energy - constructive or destructive'
'Tiger conservation in countries of the world'
'Comparative study of traditional customs'
'Evolution of cars - world wide'

The children will collect details on various aspects across our country as well as Srilanka, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Japan, China, Russia, Dubai, United Kingdom, Germany, France, Switzerland and Egypt.

Our KinderGarten section had Christmas celebrations on 21 Dec '12.

Ms.Sreelatha Jayarajan and Ms.B.Rajeswari(Department of Maths) attend a residential workshop on Maths teaching methodology, conducted by AMTI at IIM Taramani, from 22nd to 25th Nov '12. The teachers were provided with a hands-on experience in many areas such as paper-folding, Math lab activities, non-routine problems and mental sums.

Students of Class XI 'C' and XII 'C' (Commerce group) made a visit to Kotak Mahindra Bank, Chennai, on 08 Dec '12, to obtain practical knowledge on banking procedures and its functioning.

The students of Class XI participated in 'Junior Achievement', a career guidance programme conducted by a few members of Cognizant.
