Theatre Fest 2015

As the sun set on the 8th of February 2015, and the stars began to twinkle, the real stars of that night were actually down below, waiting to take us on a wild ride through the life of Simba, the lion!

Truly enough, the audience were taken on a journey into a magical world inspired by the blockbuster hit of 1994: “The Lion King” where imaginations came back to life and woke up the child in everyone’s heart!

Whether, it was seeing their kids or siblings up on stage, or the enchanting musical play which they put up, the magic and happiness truly filled the atmosphere along with huge round of applauses after every scene, especially after the songs!

The play took us on a magical journey, made us laugh and cry with Simba, and taught us that happiness can be found, even in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light and of course say “Hakuna Matata”!!!!

Trip to Nanmangalam and palikarnai on 6.02.15

Treking rejuanates each part of the body. On 6th of February 2015, Nature club organised a trek into Nanmangalam reserve forest,an hostile thick jungle with many indegenous flora . This scrub jungle maintains its unexploited beauty even in the smoky chennai’s pollution. The journey to the jungle by 36 nature lovers of T. I began around 5.45a.m.

Nature always welcomes us with warmth. A four legged host (dog) was the first to welcome us into the forest by wagging his tail and directing us to the main office. We walked into the forest for almost 2kms. The thorns of the bushes beckoned us to know its uniqueness in the wild. Dr. Stephan, a botanist loaded our little brains with many botanical names of wild plants like Wrightia tinctoria,Santalum album, Pterocarpus angolensus, Ziziphus oenoplis, Termanila arjuna, Cassytha filiformis etc . An ornothologist ,Mr. Saravanan from WWF enlighted thirty six amateur bird lovers to identify birds with the calls. Eyes of the trakkers sparkled with excitement when a Dodder plant(insectivorous ) was spotted. Enthusiasm continued for a longer time as eyes turned to see a rare bird ( grey horned owlet),camofoulaging with the rocks. Many birds were seen at closer vicinity on small shrubs eating its breakfast (tiny fruits).

From Nanmangalam we proceeded to Palikarnai Marsh by 10.30a.m. The marsh was filled with many birds like Pelican, Flamingos, Painted stork, Plover etc. To see them in the water body undisturbed amidst traffic pollution and vechicler sound teaches us that ‘one can survive in any situation ,if determined’.
