'STEMS2019' - Primary Project Report

In an endeavour to provide ground for meaningful knowledge building and purposeful learning opportunities 'Team Primary' thought of a Project Day 'STEMS 2019' that would lead students travel beyond the bounds of their prescribed texts. Educational systems serve students best if they enable and encourage students to build their own interdisciplinary pathway. When students encounter something new, they have to integrate it with previous ideas and experiences by connecting the new knowledge to something already known thus enabling Constructivism. Cambridge English Assessment

To introduce and emphasize the four skills (LSRW) in English as the Cambridge assessments (eg.IELTS) which are globally validated.

Cambridge Assessment English in Partnership with Chrysalis conducted a group discussion on the 21st of October at Cambridge Assessment English, No. 28, Spur Tank Road, Chetpet.

Mrs. Sashikala Narayanan (Product Developer - Cambridge) and Mrs. Chitra, Swetha and Abhishek (EZ Vidya – Chrysalis were the facilitators. Mrs. Smitha from the primary section attended the session. The session started with the introduction of teachers and further discussions continued with the challenges faced by teachers in teaching English in groups. Sashikala explained the approach to cater to various levels of students inside a classroom and this led to a framework of integrating Cambridge English Assessment in to Chrysalis English. This includes installation of apps in students' tablets and the teacher has an access to grade the students on the four skills – Listening, Reading, Speaking and Writing. Teachers will also have a set of rubrics to grade students appropriately. The teachers also got to work on the Mock app which gave us an insight on how to use it.

It is highly recommended that this app be used as most Global Assessments in English adheresto the four skills and is a need of the hour.
