Nature club trip to Vandaloor Zoo – STD VII – 1-9-14

35 members of Nature club of Std VII escorted by Mrs. Ruby Varghese and Ms. Steffi Imaculate went on a trip to Vandaloor Zoo on 1-9-14 (Monday). Mr. Manimozhi, senior officer of the Zoo briefed the students on the history of the Vandaloor Zoo, the animals protected there and the feeding and breeding habits of all the captivated animals of the Zoo. Students were taken around the zoo to identify the various species of wild life and appreciate the wide diversity present there. A lion safari was also organized for our students wherein they got a golden opportunity to observe lions and lionesses from a close view, fighting, playing and yawning. It was a thrilling experience. A consolidation and review on the day’s observation was organized when our students interacted with the resource person and gained knowledge and clarified their doubts.

Somdev Kishore Devvarman’s visit to our school

We are proud to share the news that Somdev Kishore Devvarman, an Arjuna awardee, gold medalist in Asian and Commonwealth games, a leading international Tennis Champion visited our school on 16.09.14 and had a very interesting, honest and inspiring Interaction with our students, teachers and parents.

Mr. Somdev, a very young tennis champion whose current singles ranking is 144, interacted with our students and also shared his experiences and motivated the young minds with his positive talk. Here is the gist of his interaction session.

  1. Student: How should we balance academics and sports?
    Somdev: Balance them equally. Both are important in life.

  2. Student: How you will face the down trend?
    Somdev: never give up. Win or lose doesn’t mind. It’s a sport and play it with a sportive spirit. Do a self-assessment and get ready for your next challenge. You will learn more from your losses.

  3. Parent: how long you practice?
    Somdev: 4 to 5 hours a day and in off-season 6 to 7 hours a day .

  4. Student: Is tennis your passion or did it fall in place?
    Somdev: I am passionate about sports in general. To be very frank, I started to play football and then tennis fell in place.

  5. Student: What inspired you to start Minisports?
    Somdev: 3 years ago, we started a charity to reach underprivileged children to make a positive impact in their lives and that’s how we started and later we stretched to private schools too.

  6. Student: which is important in life and how to come out of confusion: sports or academics?
    Somdev: be honest and do self evaluation. Then you will know in what you are good at and do accordingly.

  7. Student: you said you have travelled to many places. What difference you find in Chennai?
    Somdev: Chennai is known for its best, tasty sambar.

He ended the session by saying “YOU DO YOUR BEST AND LEAVE THE REST”.

Science Expo 2014

Students of class VII & VIII gained practical experience by doing Simple science experiments to prove basic concepts in physics, chemistry and biology.
Students of class IX to XII presented PPT on various topics like Robotics, Black Holes, Barcode reader, Vision in animals and many more.
