Activity Title: Total Lunar Eclipse

Time: 6.15 pm to 8.30 pm

Astronomy club organized to view the total Lunar Eclipse on 31.01.2018 from 6.15 pm to 8.30 pm. Around 50 students of the Astronomy club and few students from SRMHSS accompanied by Mr. Ravi Shnakar , their Physics teacher, gathered at our school terrace to view the eclipse.

Mr. Ravi Shankar, and Mr. Dushyanthan explained about the total lunar eclipse and blue moon. They helped the students in viewing the eclipse.

Students also had an opportunity to see a meteor, a Satellite and ISS( International Space Station).

Activity Title: Folk song and folk dance

Time: 8:45am – 11:40 am

Venue: I ‘B’ Classroom

Target Group: Theatre club members class 4 & 5

Teachers In Charge: RP, SMP, KS

Objective of the Activity: Students will be able to sing a Hindi folk song and a Tamil folk song. Students will gain a knowledge about folk songs.

A detailed report of activity: During the session students learnt to sing ‘Humko shakthi dena dhatha’- A Hindi folk song and a Tamil folk song from Dr. Navaneetha Krishnan’s album’ Thottu kadai orathilae’.

Activity Title: Leaf Rubbing, Bark Rubbing

Time: 10.10am to 11.40 am

Category: Junior

Venue: Primary assembly area

Target Group: Class IV and V

Teachers In Charge: KRV, GR, RY

Objective of the Activity: To know the pattern of leaves and bark of a tree.

A detailed report of activity: Students enjoyed leaf rubbing by collecting different leaves around the campus and traced it with crayons in a paper which evoked their creative skills. Finally they did bark rubbing by which they got to know the pattern and texture of barks of different trees.

Activity Title: Quiz Competition

Category: Junior

Time: 8:30 – 10:00

Venue: BIO LAB

Target Group: Class 4 and 5

Teachers In Charge: AK, MM, KPS

Objective of the Activity: To give an exposure in answering quiz within the stipulated time.

A detailed report of activity: 53 students took up the preliminary test of which students who scored above 6 (20 students) were short listed and selected for the final round of the quiz. 5 teams comprising of 4 students were selected. Aditya Sai of class IX B conduted the competition. It was a chance given to empower his anchoring talents.

The following rounds were conducted:

  • Fact Round.
  • Scientist Round.
  • Video Round.
  • Satellite Round.

There was a tie between Team B and Team C at the end of the final round. Team C emerged winners as they answered the tie breaker question within a second.

Activity Title: Object Drawing

Target Group: Members of class 4 and 5

Objective of the Activity: Drawing the Object

A detailed report of activity: Students have to look at the object kept ( lamp & vase) and sketch(3D) the object.

Tips given :

  • Look at the dimensions
  • Start from the outline and go inwards.
  • Angle of all the feautures to be noted.

Children enjoyed doing the activity. After completing one object most of them wanted to try the other object as well . Tips to improvise the sketch was given at the end .

Nature Club Inhouse Camp

Date: 23.12.2017 - 24.12.2017

The Nature club camp was housed at T.I School on the 23rd and 24th of Dec 2017.

The camp started with the screening of a documentary on “The Life of Nature” a documentary by David Attenborough and set the platform for an explorer’s mind. Bird watching activity by Mr. Ravishankar from SRMHSS excited the participants with the nuances to be kept in mind while watching the winged wonders. Mr. Venkatraman, popularly known as ‘Poochi Venkat’ took the children on a journey to spot insects within the school campus and study their features. The session came to an end with student sharing that captured the learning outcome.

Nature Club

The students gathered at the auditorium with a lot of love for nature and an introduction was given about the upcoming programs such as Conserve my planet, Neem seed collection, Young environmental scientist, Green school project.

The club incharge shares her experience about the training program on Conserve my planet to the students for better understanding about the theme. This created an enthu among the students.

Furthermore, much information is given to the students regarding conserve my planet about the position of green ambassador and the duties to be carried out.

To add onto the information the collection of electricity bill, reducing the power consumption in the schools by visiting the classes at regular intervals, organizing a exhibit based on waste to wealth – the handmade items made by the students and the money obtained in that is given to charity. Thus we are building in moral values among the students.

After the introduction about the annual scheme, the students were taken in batches for nature walk and the students enjoyed the visit.

Infobee Club

Details Of The Day’s Activity :

It was an excellent start for the ‘Infobee club’ activity. Members assembled in the Senior Library at around 8.40 am with lot of enthusiasm and expectations.

K V Saairam Prasad, President of the club initiated the day’s happening with a welcome note and he interacted with the members to know why they chose to be part of ‘Infobee club’.

He also shared with them the Annual Plan of the club. A model seeker activity was conducted with the aim to find out ‘Friendship Theorem’ and it was very much successful and appreciated by the members.

CAS and SDI activity is also initiated in make the Infobee members read news paper regularly and share important information with the relevant people. Few children volunteered to help maintaining the ‘Infobee’ web site.

There were lots of suggestions came from the members like creating an ‘app’ which will be useful to get information about various Authors and their work and also the challenges they faced to come up in life etc. There was a suggestion to create an ‘Youtube’ channel in which we can share experience of reading a book, book reviews, information regarding reading and books etc.

Club in-charge assured that this can be discussed with the Principal and after getting permission we will proceed.

A comprehensive review was done and the day’s activities winded up with a positive note and cheerfulness.

Details Of The Day’s Activity :

  • Heritage club Incharge smt. Nirmala introduced the club president Gokulnath to the members and briefed the activites of the club during the year.
  • Details about trip to Pondicherry and the important places of interest related to our heritage are discussed.
  • The president of the club Gokulnath explained about the theme “dream madras” and various exhibits to be presented on the topic “safe street” at Anna university Auditorium .
  • Members were divided into groups to discuss on the topic and they came out with a variety of ideas for presentation for “Dream Madras”.
  • Discussions about Navarathri celebrations and Onam were also taken to the team.

Students were paired and asked to pick up from the lots consisting of the names of different folk arts. They presented the picture composition based on the topic given by using water colour, sketch, pencil, oil pastels etc in a quarter size chart provided by the school.

The year’s plan was discussed with the students and that was followed by a video clip showing detailed information on the formation of the Universe. The students enthusiastically watched the clip and were posting queries based on the video clip.

Due to lack of time, all the queries couldn’t be handled. The President of the club had noted them down which will be handled in the next club session.

The students were asked to exhibit their hidden talents. Then they were asked to choose characters of their choice and enact a dual role. They participated well in this activity which will help them enhance their theatrical skills.
