Involvement in Middle school

1. Ms Eleanor and Ms Beatrice had visited class VI B and taught them how a poem could be read using ‘Freeze Frames’. Students enjoyed the way they taught and also were engaged in making freeze frames for the poem The Statue.

Ms. Eleanor visited standard IV B and was welcomed by students with eurhythmic claps. The session on ‘asking questions’ was anchored by Ms. Eleanor. She encouraged students to ask questions. The students were enthusiastic in asking her about her family, native land, favorite sports, food and hobby. she taught them a ‘Silly penguin song’ and students in turn taught her the ‘ticky tacky too’ song

Following are the observations made by the teacher (YM):

  • Introduced the topic by questioning-‘What does freeze frame mean?’
  • They demonstrated to the children what does freeze frame meant.
  • Group activity- students were grouped into three. The first stanza was read aloud and the students were asked to make freeze frames of what they understood from the first stanza.
  • Repeated the activity for all the four stanzas
  • Discussion on who do they think would be the reader in the poem.
  • The mood of the poem was discussed.

  • Ms. Beatrice asked students to come up with metaphors for ‘True Love’. She gave them examples and motivated them to think in the same lines.
  • She introduced ‘Shakespeare’ and ‘Sonnet’. Gave them more information on the topics.
  • Think-pair-share activity was conducted. She divided the students and assigned them lines from the text to discuss and come out with their understanding.

Due to time constraint she couldn’t complete the discussion of the poem.
