The Heritage club members of classes VI to VIII participated in the activity conducted on 19.08.2023. Ms. Sivashankari initiated the discussion on heritage games pallaguzhi (Aligulimane) and Thayam (Pachisi) and shared the history and significance of playing those games. The skills acquired by playing all these games were also shared. Students were allowed to play the game with their own groups following the proper rules and instructions.

Music Club activity was held on 05.08.23 with their teachers in-charge and 25 club members. The main objective of this club is to develop an appreciation for various musical genres, understand the melody, rhythm, to enhance listening skills and emotional expression.
Thaalam: Adhi thaalam
Jhulat Radha describes the yearning and emotions of Radha and beloved of lord Krishna. In this song Radha’s emotions are portrayed as she eagerly awaits Krishna’s arrival.
The teachers had a self- introduction and a brief discussion with the students. An introduction about the song and rhythm was accompanied by clapping or tapping the beat. The teacher sang the song and the students were asked to repeat the lines one by one along with the beat. Later, the students were encouraged to sing the song as a group and support each other as it helps to improve the pitch, tone, breath control collectively. Children were allowed to showcase their talent by singing their favorite song based on Krishna Bhajan and appreciate each other.
The activity was followed by a group discussion. Students were encouraged to share their thoughts and feelings about the song.
The activity focused to improve the concentration and enhance their auditory skills. It also provided exposures to various cultures. It fostered emotional intelligence by allowing students to connect with the emotions and stories conveyed through the music

“Remember; there are no small roles, only small actors.”
The day began with the introduction of the club president and vice president. Teachers in charge of the club briefed the students about the importance of the club and the activities planned for the academic year.
Students from classes XI and XII had an opportunity to attend a theater based workshop at KFI, The School. They shared their experiences with the other members of the club.
Following this, students were grouped to present an act on the spot. They were excited about the preparation for the act. Students gave their best, some were nervous some were confident but either way they all learned something new in the art of acting. The students performed on various topics filled with both humour and information. The skits were based on TV advertisements and also adaptations from excerpts like ‘Silapathikaram’ etc. Students acquired presentation skills and gained information on the field of theatre and literature.
The Heritage Club conducted an activity on ‘Power Point Presentation of Clan God’ which was held on 19.08.2023 for classes IX to XII. The activity started with a prayer song by three students of class XII.
Ms. Kamakshi Swaminathan briefed about the clan God and its significance. She presented pictures of her clan god and talked on its unique features, methods of worship and rituals followed.
Ms. R Vijayalakshmi shared the details about her clan God. The Erikatha Ramar temple which is also known as Maduranthankam temple in Chengalpattu district is believed to be the clan God of her family. The main deity is Lord Rama and Janakavalli Thayar. The temple construction was initiated by a Collector Colonel Lionel Blaze during the period between 1795 and 1799.
The students were encouraged to collect the details of their clan God and prepare a powerpoint presentation. Two students readily agreed to present their PPT for the upcoming heritage club activity.

“Nermaiyin Vegumathy” was the clipping screened to students on 23.08.2023 by Mrs. YAMINI between 2.50 p.m. and 3.15 p.m. The session started by recalling the rules to be followed by the students during the session and the purpose of the Film Club.

School is a place that holds the responsibility of creating not just a good student, but a good citizen as well. It is the first place that implants the sense of equality amid children, moulding them to treat everyone equally in the outside world and also helping others and most of all sharing. The short film "Pencil" was screened to the students of classes 6,7 and 8, by Ms. Vyjayanthi on 23.08.23, igniting the thought of treating everyone equally and sharing. The students actively engaged in discussion, post-screening of the film. The film helped them understand that everyone should be treated the same, no matter what makes them different. The movie "Pencil" taught the students that stories can help make the world a better place by showing important ideas.

“It was on this day 22nd August in 1639 that the town of Madrasapatnam, which later expanded and developed into modern-day Chennai, was purchased by the East India Company (EIC) from local kings”.
As a part of Madras Day Celebration ‘THE HINDU’ organized a Photo Exhibition on 28/08/23 named Festival of Chennai – Madras Month. The Heritage Club students from Class VI and VII were taken to The Hindu Office at Anna Salai. The officials guided the students to the photo exhibition and explained the displays. The 145 years old pictures that were taken by the Reporters of The Hindu magazine were displayed dividing it into three categories namely ‘Oor’, ‘Ula’, ‘Ulam’. ‘Oor’ had pictures of the cityscape and the lives of diverse inhabitants. ‘Ula’, described Chennai through sports, leisure and entertainment. ‘Ulam’ had pictures of Chennai through Myriad movements, emotions and thoughts.
Students enjoyed watching the pictures and were able to relate some pictures with the present days especially pictures of Beach, Coovum River, Parrys Corner, Chintadripet etc. The students had a deep impact on seeing the condition of the Coovum River.
While leaving the students received complimentary keychain and an old photo postcard of Marina Beach.

Jaigopal Garodia Matriculation Higher Secondary School conducted ‘HISCOM UTSAV’ – ‘Social Science & Commerce Fest’ on 18.08.23. 16 students from our school participated and won prizes. Ameyaashri V S of XII C won the first place in Powerpoint presentation on the topic ‘Rights and Responsibilities of a Consumer’ and was awarded with a shield and cash prize of Rs.250. Muthumeena P R, Madumitha G and Hemashree T of XII C as a team participated in the Project Exhibit on Sustainable Development and bagged the third place and were awarded with a shield and cash prize of Rs. 750.

“Old houses are full with memories and that’s why they resist to collapse” – Mehmet Murat Jihan
The Madras Day 2023 competition was conducted on the 14th of August 2023.
The theme was “Study of two old houses (60+ years old) in one area.” The teachers visited 3 old houses near Murugappa Street, Ambattur to get consent from the inhabitants. On the 7th of August 2023, Hari Ganesh S of IX B, Saptharrishi K J K of X B, and Gitanjali R of XI B, along with the teacher went to two houses, one on Murgappa Street, and one on T V Chari Street, Ambattur. There were so many distinct features that could be observed that made the houses stand out from modern-day buildings. The people in the house were really friendly and excited to show around their home. After collecting information, pictures, and videos from the house the students prepared a “multimedia-rich” PowerPoint. On the 14th of August 2023, the students were escorted to Ranade Library, Luz church road, Mylapore, to participate in the competition. The students presented their ppt and watched other schools present their ppt. The competition was judged by Mr. Vincent D’souza, editor and publisher of Mylapore Times, and his colleague Mr. Sundar. The students were presented with lots of learnings and questions.

‘PRAKRUTI’ an Inter-School Cultural Fest was conducted by the Swamy’s School, Porur, Chennai .The School organized the competition for various events for classes IX to XII. It was conducted for two days on 22/08/2023 & 23/08/2023. The valedictory function was organized at the end of the events. 18 schools participated in the competition, from which our school students from classes IX to XII interestingly participated in various events and bagged many prizes. The host school organized eminent persons from the respective field for all the events and they gave their insights to each performer and their areas of improvisation.
The School chairperson Mr. Girish and Mrs. Gayathri Girish witnessed all the performances. They appreciated and encouraged the students personally.

Students who scored individual high score were selected for ‘PRAKRUTHI AWARD’. Poornima Preetha N.U of class 12 B was one of the finalists among the 7 selected students from all the participated schools. For few events (ADZAP & SPLIT PERSONALITY) our students did on the spot registration and the performance of our students was very much appreciated by the event judges.
